Lockheed Martin B-1 Aero Center
An addition of 8,000 SF to the existing F-22 Raptor’s Nest at Lockheed Martin’s facility in Marietta, the new Aero Center was constructed inside the B-1 building in close proximity to the F-22 Raptor assembly line. This required special care to prevent FOD (Foreign Object Debris) from affecting the assembly process. This was done successfully by total encapsulation of the project during the course of construction.
Some of the facilities included in this addition were restrooms, a galley, a catering staging area, an exhibit area, and a conference room. The addition consists of structural steel with metal stud infill. An impact resistant concrete curb was installed under all of the exterior walls to avoid damage caused by normal plant traffic. Interior finishes include 10” oak base, radius maple millwork, and aluminum composite panels.
Constructed for visiting heads of state and high ranking military officials, the interior finishes and audio visual equipment are the highlights of this project. Some of these items include a serpentine glass entrance wall with etched logos and images, a 9’ x 16’ STARGLAS 60 rear projection screen, state of the art video/telephone conferencing capability, and floor to ceiling acoustical panels in the new conference room. The covered display area has a high gloss industrial grade epoxy floor coating that creates a very clean and crisp appearance when entering the Aero Center from inside the B-1 Building.
